Migraine and Headache Awareness Month 2025
This June, during Migraine and Headache Awareness Month (MHAM) we are shining a spotlight on a disease that affects more than 1 billion people worldwide, yet remains widely misunderstood. Despite being the second leading cause of global disability, migraine continues to be stigmatized, underdiagnosed, and undertreated.
This year, we are anchoring into the theme, “I AM (IN)VISIBLE.”
This is meant to serve as a bold reminder that while migraine itself may be invisible, the people living with it are not. Together, we can amplify their voices, bring attention to their experiences, and push for better care, research, and understanding.
We look forward to seeing you during our many events planned for the month. And remember, check back to this page for additional updates!
One more thing: Your financial support along the way would make all the difference for those living with migraine.
Week 1: migraine and Mental Health - Hidden in plain siGHT
At the American Migraine Foundation, we believe that migraine is a whole-person disease. Our mission is to make every part of that experience visible—from the neurological to the emotional—so that no one feels alone in their journey. To bring this week’s theme to life, we’re hosting a series of Facebook Lives with leading experts:
- Thursday, May 29 at 3PM ET: Mental Health & Migraine with Dr. Betsy Seng → Watch Now!
- Friday, May 30 at 10AM ET: Depression & Migraine with Dr. Richard Lipton → Watch Now!
WEEK 2: Migraine & life in Motion - The Invisible weight of living with chronic disease
Migraine doesn’t pause for meetings, caregiving, or everyday responsibilities. People living with migraine often push through in silence, carrying symptoms that others can’t see. That’s exactly why AMF’s 2025 campaign theme is “I AM (IN)VISIBLE.”
Here’s what’s coming up this week:
- Monday, June 2 at 3:30PM ET: Cluster Headaches with Dr. Mark Burish→ Watch Now!
- Tuesday, June 3 at 3PM ET: Migraine Freedom with Dr. Andrew Blumenfeld→ Watch Now!
- Wednesday, June 4 at 4:30PM ET: Menstrual Migraine with Dr. Claire Sandoe→ Watch Now!
- Thursday, June 5 at 9:00AM ET: Rational Combination Therapy with Dr. Stewart Tepper→ Watch Now!
- Friday, June 6 at 3:30PM ET: Getting the Diagnosis Right (and Early) with Dr. Jessica Ailani→ Watch Now!

Week 3: migraine & Stigma — Dismissed and Misunderstood
This week, we’re turning our attention to another part of the migraine experience that’s rarely addressed but deeply felt: stigma.
Our theme, “Migraine & Stigma”, calls attention to the moments when people living with migraine are ignored, disbelieved, or treated as if their condition is “just a headache.”
Join us this week as we confront stigma head-on through these upcoming sessions:
- Tuesday, June 10 at 3PM ET: Dismissed and Misunderstood with Dr. Dawn Buse→ Watch Now!
- Thursday, June 12 at 3PM ET: Stigma and the Workplace with Dr. Olivia Begasse de Dhaem→ Watch Now!
Week 4: Migraine and Discrimination - Pain doesn't discriminate
This week’s theme, “Migraine & Discrimination,” speaks to the fact that while anyone can live with migraine, not everyone has the same access to diagnosis, treatment, or support.
That’s why we’re excited this week’s conversations are sponsored by Lundbeck and will be live from the American Headache Society (AHS) Annual Meeting, where we’ll hear from experts about how to build a more equitable future in migraine care:
- Friday, June 20 at 2:30PM ET: Live from AHS with Dr. Tesha Monteith→ Watch Now!
- Saturday, June 21 at 10AM ET: Live from AHS with Dr. Amaal Starling→ Watch Now!
Week 5: migraine, Science and the future
This week’s theme, “Migraine Science & the Future”, spotlights the research, technology, and innovation that offer hope for better care. From treatment advances to migraine registries, the future is filled with possibilities. But only if we continue to invest in it.
That’s why we’re inviting you to join us for our biggest event of the month:
- Thursday, June 26 at 12PM ET: Migraine Science & The Future with Dr. Andrea Harriott→ Watch Now!
- Thursday, June 26 at 6PM ET:
Migraine State of the Union Webinar with Carrie Howell, Dr. Christine Lay, Nim Singh, Dr. Todd Schwedt and New York Times Bestselling Author Tia Williams.→ Watch Now!
We’ll be discussing the future of migraine care, what we’ve learned this month, and what still needs to change.
