Dr. Allan Purdy

R. Allan Purdy

Dr. Allan Purdy is the President of the American Headache Society and a Professor of Medicine at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. He is also the Chair of the Education Committee and on the Board of Directors of the International Headache Society. Previously, he was President of the Canadian Headache Society and Head of the Department of Medicine at Dalhousie. Dr. Purdy is interested in the clinical neurology of headache diseases, and in developing educational programs for physicians around the world who care for patients with these diseases. He believes the best care for migraine comes from understanding that it is a neurological disease with remarkable mechanisms embedded in the brain. In 2005, Dr. Purdy received the Arnold P. Friedman Distinguished Clinician Research Award from the American Headache Society for outstanding contribution to the field of headache, and the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Headache Cooperative of New England.
